Meet “THE" Team

Our Most Valuable Assets

Xuan.jpg

Dr. Xuan Dam

Principal Dentist

Dr. Xuan Dam, a proud graduate of The University of Queensland, combines clinical excellence with a warm sense of humour and a deep belief in prevention-first dentistry. She’s passionate about transforming smiles—but even more so about making sure her patients feel informed, empowered, and genuinely cared for every step of the way.

Since 2014, Xuan has been providing orthodontic treatments, placing dental implants since 2017, and offering clear aligner solutions since 2019. She regularly engages in advanced professional development—not just to stay sharp, but because she genuinely loves learning (and yes, even dental conferences).

Xuan has received countless heartfelt Google reviews from her patients—something she doesn’t take lightly. Each kind word is a reminder of the trust and affection she’s been shown, and she strives every day to be worthy of that loyalty.

Known for her gentle approach, calm demeanour, and just the right amount of dentist-approved humour, Xuan has a knack for turning nervous patients into relaxed ones—often sending them off with a smile that’s both genuine and a little brighter than before.

When she’s not in the clinic, Xuan enjoys life’s simpler joys: time with her husband and son, and tending lovingly to her home garden (where her plants, unlike her patients, never complain about flossing).

Tim.jpeg

Dr. Thien (Tim) Dam

Dentist

Dr. Thien Dam—known affectionately as Tim—earned his Masters in Dentistry from Griffith University and also holds a PhD in Science (because why stop at one title?). He is skilled in all areas of general dentistry and has a particular passion for oral surgery. Tim stays up to date with the latest in dental techniques through regular professional development, especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry.

Known for his gentle and caring nature, Tim has a unique ability to make patients feel genuinely at ease—thanks to his calm demeanour, clear communication, and endearingly awkward sense of humour. While his attempts at being funny don’t always land, patients seem to find them strangely charming all the same.

Tim takes the time to walk patients through their options in a clear and relaxed way, so they feel comfortable and confident in making decisions about their dental care.

Outside the clinic, Tim enjoys quality time with family and friends, including his cherished boys’ club morning coffee catch-ups on the weekend. He also loves fishing and, once upon a time, dreamed of becoming a professional poker player—until he discovered that bluffing wasn’t exactly his strong suit.

Junelle.jpg

Junelle Farrell

Senior Dental Assistant

Junelle began her dental assisting career at 18 in Dunedin, New Zealand, and her passion for the field has been evident from the very beginning. Her skills and dedication have allowed her to work and travel around the world, including Europe, Australia, and exotic locations across South Africa. After spending a decade working in the UK, Junelle and her family settled in Brisbane, Australia, in 1992. Since joining Dental Images in 2011, she has become an indispensable member of the team, excelling both as a highly skilled chair-side assistant and an efficient front desk coordinator. Her in-depth knowledge of clinical procedures enables her to communicate treatment options to patients with clarity and precision.

Junelle’s exceptional abilities, paired with her warm and caring nature, make her a valued asset to both patients and colleagues. Her supportive attitude contributes to a positive and cohesive team environment, and she is truly a pleasure to work with.

Amy.jpg

Amy Mai

Dental Assistant

Amy began her dental assisting career in the 1990s at our sister practice in Inala. After taking a break in the early 2000s to help manage her family business. In 2016, Amy returned to dental assisting and we were delighted to have her as a valued member of our team ever since.

Also fluent in Vietnamese, Amy provides exceptional comfort to our patients who speak the language. Her kind and compassionate demeanor significantly enhances the overall patient experience, making a lasting impression on everyone she meets.

Amy's skills in dental assisting are remarkable— she can always anticipate the needs of the dentist she works with, providing seamless support during procedures. While she excels in both chair-side assisting and front desk duties, she has a particular passion for chair-side work, where she can offer hands-on care. She enjoys engaging in light-hearted conversations with the dentist during treatments, adding a sense of humor to the visit, especially when patients can only respond after their procedures.

Andrea.jpg

Andrea Stamusz-Zsori

Dental Hygienist

Originally from the heart of Transylvania, the original land of Dracula, Andrea brings a unique blend of warmth, wit, and professional expertise to our team. A proud graduate of The University of Melbourne with a degree in Oral Health Therapy – Dental Hygiene (fittingly completed on Valentine’s Day), Andrea is passionate about helping patients achieve healthy, confident smiles.

Fluent in Romanian, Hungarian, and English, Andrea is as skilled in making patients feel at ease as she is in explaining the finer points of oral health. Her gentle approach and upbeat personality make every dental visit a positive experience.

Outside the clinic, Andrea is the proud owner of a small, family-run café, where she’s just as handy with a coffee machine as she is with a scaler. She also loves cruising—though these days, family life with four energetic kids keeps her happily grounded.

Andrea is a fantastic team player who’s always willing to lend a hand whenever she can. We’re lucky to have her as part of our team—bringing not just skill, but genuine heart (and the occasional Dracula joke, if you ask nicely).

Julie.jpg

Julie Baker

Senior Dental Assistant

Julie brings over 50 years of experience in dentistry, having started her career as a dental assistant in Sydney back in 1969. Over the decades, she’s worked across New South Wales and Queensland in roles ranging from dental assistant to practice manager and treatment coordinator.

Throughout her career, Julie has taken short breaks from dentistry to raise her two children and to pursue her love of travel—including adventures overseas and a memorable caravanning journey around Australia in 2008–2009.

After retiring to her new home on Macleay Island in 2020, Julie thought she had stepped away from dentistry for good—but she soon found herself missing the work she loves. When we took over the Macleay dental surgery here, Julie joined our team and quickly became an essential part of bringing order and care to a practice that needed both. She was instrumental in helping organise and revitalise the surgery. Her knowledge, dedication, and calm presence have been an incredible support—and a true gift.

Although she doesn’t need to work, Julie chose to join our team simply because she wanted to help, and for that, we are deeply grateful. We're so fortunate that she found her way to our Macleay surgery, where she continues to make a difference every day.

Vivien.jpg

Vivien Macarthur

Receptionist

Vivien joined the dental industry in 2020, bringing valuable customer service and people skills from her previous roles in real estate sales and managing women’s fashion boutiques. Although she was new to dentistry at the time, her natural ability to connect with people, combined with a calm and composed manner, made her an immediate asset to the team.

Her transition into the dental field was seamless, thanks to her eagerness to learn, sharp problem-solving skills, and genuine dedication to patient care. Vivien thrives under pressure and consistently handles even the most challenging situations with professionalism and grace. Her warm personality, welcoming smile, and thoughtful communication help create a positive and reassuring environment for both patients and staff.

Now a key part of the Island Smiles Dental team, Vivien has continued to grow in her role. She is currently undertaking her Certificate IV in Dental Assisting to deepen her knowledge and enhance her ability to support the practice. Her commitment to excellence, strong organisational skills, and team-first mindset make her an integral part of our daily operations.

Cindy.jpg

Cindy Richardson

Dental Assistant

Cindy joined our team earlier this year with a background in bookkeeping and a passion for learning something new. Although she came to us with no prior dental experience, her enthusiasm, quick adaptability, and natural fit for the role have made her an invaluable part of our team. From day one, she’s impressed us with how fast she’s picked things up—it's clear that Cindy was meant to be a dental assistant.

What Cindy loves most about working in dentistry is the opportunity to help patients, from pain or self-consciousness to smiling with confidence. She finds it incredibly rewarding to be part of that transformation and is excited to continue developing her skills in this fascinating field.

Outside the clinic, Cindy enjoys staying active through golf, hiking, and running. She’s passionate about health and wellness, and also loves winding down with a good book.

We’re thrilled to have Cindy on board and can’t wait to see how she continues to grow in her role!
